How to Compare Two Texts and Find Changes

Use a text diff to locate added and removed lines when reviewing drafts, notes, or code.

A diff highlights changes between two versions of text. It is useful for drafts, configuration, and code review, but line-based comparisons can look noisy after large formatting or line-ending changes.

Make a diff easy to review

Use clearly labeled original and revised text. If unrelated formatting changed, normalize it first so the comparison focuses on meaningful edits.

  1. Paste the earlier version in the first pane.
  2. Paste the newer version in the second pane.
  3. Review additions and removals in context.
  4. Confirm that every important change is intentional.

Keep in mind: Diff results show textual changes, not whether the revised content is correct or safe to run.
