How to Read a Cron Expression

Understand cron fields and preview upcoming run times before scheduling a recurring job.

Cron syntax describes recurring schedule fields such as minute, hour, day, month, and weekday. Implementations differ, especially around timezone, day-of-month versus day-of-week behavior, and support for extensions.

Verify the schedule in its runtime

Read each field from left to right and confirm the target scheduler's dialect. Previewing upcoming times helps catch a mistaken interval or weekday.

  1. Paste the expression into the parser.
  2. Review the explanation for every field.
  3. Inspect the next scheduled run times.
  4. Confirm timezone and syntax against the scheduler that will execute it.

Keep in mind: A preview is not a guarantee of execution; the scheduler's own timezone, outages, and job rules still apply.
